Youths of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have issued a 74-hour ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the commission to address concerns surrounding the party’s leadership.
The demand was made on Thursday during a peaceful protest in Katsina State, held under the banner “Amupitan Must Go.”
Led by Jamilu Yahaya, the demonstrators marched along Daura Road before proceeding to the INEC office in Katsina, where they submitted a formal petition through a representative of the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
Among their key demands, the protesters called on INEC to reinstate the leadership structure of the ADC associated with David Mark on its official portal and to issue a public apology to Nigerians over actions they claim have disrupted constitutional order.
They also urged the commission to avoid acting on correspondence, pending motions, or processes not backed by clear court rulings, stressing the need for neutrality in party affairs.
The group expressed concern that recent actions attributed to INEC could affect preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention and cast doubt on the commission’s impartiality.
They warned that failure to meet their demands within the stipulated time could lead to further lawful protests nationwide.
Responding on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Katsina, Ibrahim Dari, assured the protesters that their grievances would be communicated to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
