Woman Abducted from Lagos Home, Kidnappers Demand $60m Equivalent Ransom

Gunmen have kidnapped a woman, Olanike Ogundare, from her residence in the Ijedodo area of Lagos, demanding a ransom equivalent to ₦60 million in U.S. dollars.

The incident reportedly occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her home on Olufemi Ogundare Street in the Oke Agaye neighbourhood.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers carried out a coordinated operation, overpowering the security guard at gunpoint before taking the victim to an undisclosed location.

Local leaders and security groups have since been mobilised, including Gani Adams, as efforts intensify to secure her release.

Sources revealed that the abductors have contacted the family twice, initially demanding ₦60 million but later insisting the payment be made in U.S. dollars—an approach investigators believe may be aimed at evading tracking.

The kidnappers reportedly used the victim’s phone to communicate, with one Dapo Adeola said to be acting as an intermediary between both parties.

It was further gathered that the victim’s husband has already transferred ₦5 million to the intermediary, although it is unclear whether the money has reached the kidnappers or been converted to dollars.

Security operatives believe the victim remains in captivity, while efforts continue to monitor communications and financial transactions linked to the case.

Authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, have been engaged by the family to facilitate her rescue.
