‘It’s About 2027’ – Peter Obi Speaks on Visit to Goodluck Jonathan

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has revealed that his recent visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan was part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi, alongside some Southeast leaders, met with Jonathan at his residence on Monday. Speaking after the meeting, the former Anambra State governor explained that the visit was aimed at discussing Nigeria’s future and seeking guidance on the path toward the next electoral cycle.

He noted that their conversation centered on strategies to reposition the country and the need for leaders across regions to unite in addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

According to Obi, the 2027 elections should not be treated as just another political event, but as a defining moment to redirect the nation’s trajectory. He emphasized the urgency of tackling economic difficulties, insecurity, and social divisions through collaborative leadership.

Obi stressed that Nigeria needs leaders driven by competence, integrity, capacity, and compassion rather than personal ambition. He also highlighted the importance of shifting the country from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one, where resources are effectively utilized for national development.

He further stated that the upcoming elections must focus on improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians, including providing quality education for children, creating a supportive environment for entrepreneurs, and ensuring safety and stability for all citizens.

Obi expressed confidence that through unity, sincere dialogue, and a commitment to doing what is right, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and achieve meaningful progress, reiterating his belief that a better Nigeria is possible.
