Pop star Britney Spears gets 12-month probation for reckless driving

Pop icon Britney Spears has been handed a one-year probation sentence after

pleading guilty to a reduced charge linked to driving under the influence.

The 44-year-old singer entered her plea through her lawyer, Michael Goldstein, during proceedings at the Ventura County Superior Court on Monday, two months after her DUI arrest. Spears was not physically present in court.

Under the plea agreement—commonly referred to as a “wet reckless”—the charge was reduced to reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs, which carries lighter penalties than a full DUI conviction.

As part of her sentence, Spears received 12 months’ probation and a one-day jail term, which she has already completed. She was also ordered to attend a three-month alcohol and drug education programme.

The court further imposed a $721 fine and directed the singer to undergo regular mental health evaluations, including weekly sessions with a psychologist and bi-monthly visits to a psychiatrist.

Additionally, she has been instructed to abstain from alcohol and non-prescribed drugs. Authorities were also granted permission to search her vehicle without a warrant if she is stopped by police again.
