Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing it as “dead on arrival.”
Wike stated that Makinde’s move to align with the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in pursuit of his 2027 presidential ambition would not succeed.
This follows Makinde’s declaration in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, expressing his intention to contest for the presidency under the platform of the APM.
The declaration came after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between Makinde’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the APM.
Reacting, Wike insisted that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, had never spoken about any PDP-APM alliance, stressing that such claims were based on political speculation.
Speaking to journalists during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje, Kwali Area Council of Abuja, on Thursday, Wike said:
“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to actualize his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival.
“It’s unfortunate. We know that has always been his game plan, and we can confidently say he cannot fly the PDP flag.”
Wike also addressed remarks allegedly made by Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, concerning his continued association with the All Progressives Congress, APC, noting that the governor had not asked for sympathy from anyone.
“Sorry for what? Why are people talking about problems when nobody has said he has one?” Wike queried.
“The man has already told you he still belongs to APC. So what exactly is the issue now?”
