ADC Chieftain Maigari: Peter Obi Has Set Back Igbo Presidency Ambition by 20 Years

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Kasimu Maigari, has claimed that Peter Obi has hindered the chances of the South-East producing Nigeria’s next president.

Maigari made the remarks during an appearance on ARISE News, where he discussed recent political developments, including Obi’s move to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to him, Obi’s political influence has not strengthened the long-standing push for an Igbo presidency but has instead delayed it. He argued that many of Obi’s supporters are more focused on leveraging his popularity to secure positions such as state assembly seats, House of Representatives roles, or governorship tickets.

Maigari stated that his concern is not whether Obi can win the presidency, but that his political trajectory has set the South-East back significantly in its quest for national leadership. He also expressed doubt about Obi’s chances in the 2027 election, suggesting that many of his allies may eventually abandon him after achieving their personal political ambitions.

Despite this, Maigari maintained that the ADC remains united and strategically prepared for the 2027 elections. He added that Obi’s presence in certain regions could still work to the party’s advantage, particularly in areas where Bola Tinubu is expected to perform strongly.
