Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results

Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, alleging widespread irregularities and voter suppression during the exercise.

In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, Amaechi described the primary results as “fabricated,” insisting that the process failed to meet the standards of fairness and transparency earlier promised by the party.

The former Rivers State governor stated that he had made it clear before the election that he would only recognise the outcome if the exercise was conducted in a credible and transparent manner.

“I cannot accept results produced from a process that failed to uphold the principles the ADC claims to stand for,” Amaechi said.

He further alleged that nearly 80 percent of party members nationwide were denied the opportunity to vote during the primary election.

“There is no justification for preventing about eighty percent of party members from participating and still expecting me to accept the outcome,” he added.

Amaechi also accused the ADC of engaging in the same electoral misconduct it had previously criticised in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, the party cannot condemn vote buying, election rigging and result manipulation by other political groups while allegedly carrying out similar actions during its own internal election.

He maintained that the developments surrounding the primary were unacceptable and contrary to the ideals upon which the ADC was established.
