Atiku Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Exclude ADC From 2027 General Election

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that there is a fresh attempt by forces within the ruling establishment to prevent the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from participating in the 2027 general election.

The ADC presidential candidate made the allegation in Abuja on Monday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, describing the development as a coordinated campaign by anti-democratic elements within the ruling party.

According to Atiku, those behind the alleged plan are working to create instability within the opposition because they see the ADC as the strongest alternative ahead of the next presidential election.

Questioning the motives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku said that if the party was truly confident in its popularity and electoral strength, it should have no reason to fear the ADC.

He further accused the ruling establishment of deploying political and legal strategies to weaken opposition parties while allegedly drawing independent institutions into partisan conflicts.

Atiku warned that any attempt to manipulate the electoral process would amount to an assault on Nigeria’s democracy.

According to him, the right of citizens to vote and choose their leaders must remain protected, insisting that the desire for political change cannot be suppressed through administrative or legal means.

The former vice president also appealed to the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, civil society organisations and members of the diplomatic community to resist any action capable of compromising the credibility of the 2027 elections.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, stressing that democracy can only thrive when citizens actively defend it and refuse to ignore threats to the nation’s electoral process.
