Bello Turji Signals Openness to Dialogue, Warns Group Ready for Armed Confrontation

Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has declared that his group is willing to engage in negotiations with the government but remains prepared to continue fighting if military operations persist.

In a Hausa-language video dated June 20, 2026, Turji claimed responsibility for recent attacks on security personnel in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states.

Addressing the possibility of peace talks, the bandit kingpin said his group is open to dialogue if the government chooses negotiations over force.

According to him, his fighters are prepared for either peace or conflict, stressing that they would continue to defend themselves if confronted militarily.

The video emerged shortly after a deadly attack along the Isa–Bargaja route in Sokoto State, where suspected members of Turji’s group allegedly ambushed security operatives responding to a distress call.

Reports from local and security sources indicated that an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded during the operation, resulting in the deaths of at least four soldiers. However, military authorities had yet to officially confirm the reported casualties at the time of filing this report.
