The University of Cambridge has officially returned 116 Benin artefacts to Nigeria.  The treasures were taken from Benin City by British forces in 1897. \ The university in a statement, confirmed the transfer of legal ownership of the artefacts in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) collections to Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), operating under a management agreement with the Benin Royal Palace.
