All access roads leading to the “A-Class” Event Centre in Abuja have been barricaded by police ahead of a proposed special convention reportedly organised by members of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Tanimu Turaki. According to Channels TV, the event said to be linked to the ratification of former President Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential candidate, was scheduled to take place in Wuse 2, Abuja. The Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspect following the brutal murd€r of a 30-year-old interior/ event decorator, Esohe Aigbe, in the state capital.  Relatives stated that Aigbe had traveled to the funeral venue on Ujo Street, located in the Ogida area of Benin City, to volunteer free design services as a personal contribution to a friend's ceremony.  Unidentified individuals attacked her shortly after she completed the decoration work. The United Nations has warned that conflict-related s3xual violence surged globally in 2025, with nearly 10,000 verified cases recorded across 21 conflict-affected countries. Presenting the UN’s annual report at UN Headquarters, Pramila Patten said the world had witnessed a significant increase in the use of r@pe and other forms of s3xual abuse as tools of war, terrorism, torture and political repression. “In 2025 documented cases of s3xual violence as a tactic of war, torture, terrorism and political repression marked by extreme brutality and overwhelmingly targeting women and girls increased dramatically,” Patten said. The Office of former President Goodluck Jonathan has disowned a trending Instagram account operating under the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan, describing it as fake and an act of impersonation. In a statement issued on Friday, Jonathan’s media aide, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, said the former president does not operate or maintain any personal account on Instagram. Several shops owned by foreign nationals were looted in Estcourt, the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, South Africa on Friday morning, May 29, 2026. Provincial spokesperson Lt-Col Robert Netshiunda, who confirmed the incident said that "six shops owned by foreign nationals” were looted and calm has been restored in the area.  He added that no injuries were reported. Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, says the National Assembly is considering the creation of a national commission to oversee state policing operations as part of efforts to establish state police across the country.
