Chelsea have completed the signing of veteran striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion, with the experienced forward signing a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2028.
The Premier League club confirmed the deal on Saturday, announcing that the former Manchester United and Arsenal forward will join Xabi Alonso’s squad during the club’s pre-season preparations.
Welbeck arrives after an impressive campaign with Brighton, where he scored 13 Premier League goals in 37 appearances. The England international becomes one of several summer additions as Chelsea continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The Blues have also recruited Morgan Rogers, Marco Palestra, and Geovany Quenda, while reports continue to link the club with Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson.
Welbeck began his professional career at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning the Premier League, two League Cups, the Community Shield, and the FIFA Club World Cup before moving to Arsenal, where he scored 32 goals in 126 appearances. He later featured for Watford and Brighton.
Akinsanmiro Joins Monza
Meanwhile, Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has joined Serie A side Monza on loan from Inter Milan, with the agreement including an obligation to make the move permanent if certain conditions are met.
Monza described the 21-year-old as a technically gifted midfielder ready to begin a new chapter after progressing through Remo Stars, moving to Inter in 2023, and gaining valuable experience during loan spells with Sampdoria and Pisa.
Akinsanmiro has also made his senior debut for the Super Eagles, earning his first cap in an international friendly against Egypt in 2025.
Akpoguma Heads to Frosinone
Elsewhere, Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma has completed a free transfer to Frosinone after ending his long association with Hoffenheim.
The 31-year-old centre-back signed a two-year contract with the Italian club, bringing to an end a 13-year spell in Germany, where he made 175 Bundesliga appearances.
Akpoguma, who previously spent time on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96, will now play outside Germany for the first time in his professional career.
Born in Germany, the defender represented the country at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Nigeria in 2020. He has since earned eight caps for the Super Eagles.
