‘Criminals Will Face Swift Justice’ — Edo Governor Okpebholo Issues Strong Warning to Kidnappers, Cultists

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern warning to kidnappers, cultists, and other criminal elements operating in the state, vowing that his administration will ensure their speedy prosecution and punishment.

Speaking during the parade of criminal suspects at the Edo State Police Command headquarters in Benin City, the governor declared that his government plans to establish a special court to fast-track the trial of kidnapping and cult-related cases.

Okpebholo stressed that criminals would no longer find refuge in Edo State, promising aggressive action against offenders and those who sponsor criminal activities.

The governor also rewarded police officers involved in the arrest of a suspect linked to the recent Vegetable Market kidnapping incident with ₦10 million, commending their efforts in combating crime.

According to him, one suspect was arrested during the operation, another was killed, while security agencies are still pursuing two other suspects believed to have escaped.

Reaffirming his commitment to public safety, Okpebholo urged residents to shun crime and embrace legitimate means of livelihood, insisting that no criminal would be allowed to operate freely in the state.

He also praised the Federal Government’s support for security agencies, stating that improved funding and collaboration were contributing to recent successes in the fight against crime.

Meanwhile, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured residents that efforts are being intensified to apprehend all remaining members of the gang.

Items recovered from the arrested suspect include a Lexus RX 350 vehicle, a pump-action shotgun, live cartridges, a motorcycle, and ₦2.25 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

The police commissioner thanked the governor for his continued support and reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
