Newly appointed Delta State Commissioner, Moses Ogodo, became visibly emotional during his inauguration on Monday after being sworn into the State Executive Council by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Moments after taking the oath of office at the Government House in Asaba, Ogodo broke down in tears and moved to kneel before the governor in appreciation for his appointment.
Governor Oborevwori, however, immediately stopped the gesture, asking the commissioner to remain standing.
“Don’t kneel down for me. Stand up. We are here to serve Deltans together,” the governor told him.
The governor’s response drew applause from dignitaries and guests who attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Reacting to the incident, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ossai Ovie Success, described the moment as one filled with “tears of joy,” saying it reflected Governor Oborevwori’s humility and leadership style.
According to him, the emotional atmosphere peaked when Ogodo attempted to kneel in gratitude after taking the oath, but the governor quickly discouraged the act and reminded him that public service is a shared responsibility.
He added that the governor’s response demonstrated humility and a commitment to serving the people of Delta State under the administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
A video from the ceremony showed the emotional commissioner wiping away tears before approaching the governor, who signalled him to stand instead of kneeling. The pair then exchanged a handshake as those in attendance applauded the touching moment.
