FIFA has published its latest Men’s World Rankings following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles retaining 26th place globally.
Despite remaining in the same position, the Super Eagles continue to rank as the fourth-best team in Africa after their most recent international outing—a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal in June under head coach Eric Chelle.
Among Africa’s top-ranked teams, Egypt recorded the biggest improvement following an impressive World Cup campaign. The Pharaohs advanced to the Round of 16 before bowing out after a narrow 3-2 defeat to Argentina, earning them a rise to third in Africa.
Morocco, who reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, strengthened their status as Africa’s highest-ranked nation. The Atlas Lions climbed one place to sixth in the world, maintaining their position at the top of the African rankings.
Meanwhile, Senegal slipped three places in the global standings but remained second in Africa, while Algeria dropped one spot overall and now occupy fifth place among African teams.
At the top of the global rankings, Spain reclaimed the No. 1 position after lifting the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy. Argentina, the tournament runners-up and former world champions, dropped to second, while France, England, and Brazil complete the world’s top five.
FIFA also announced that the next update to the Men’s World Rankings is scheduled for October 7, 2026.
