Former National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in what she described as her prolonged ordeal with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a viral video released on Saturday by ADBN, the former NSIPA chief became emotional as she urged the President to facilitate the conclusion of the investigation into allegations that led to her suspension.
Shehu was suspended in January 2024 over the alleged diversion of ₦17 billion in NSIPA funds and was subsequently detained by the EFCC.
Speaking in the video, Shehu said the delay in concluding the investigation and releasing its findings has left her facing uncertainty, hardship, and damage to her reputation.
She called on the anti-graft agency to make its investigative report public, saying she only wants the truth to be known and the matter brought to a close.
Addressing President Tinubu directly, Shehu said she had endured pain since publicly declaring her support for him and appealed to him as her political father to help bring an end to the case.
According to her, if the message reaches the President, she hopes he will intervene so that the issue can finally be resolved.
Her removal from NSIPA was linked to the suspension of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, who was also removed from office in January 2024 following allegations surrounding the transfer of ₦585.189 million into a private account.
Nearly three years after both suspensions, the EFCC has yet to publicly release the investigative reports relating to either Halima Shehu or Betta Edu.
