Haaland Nets Winner as Man City Overtake Arsenal at the Top

Manchester City climbed back to the summit of the Premier League standings after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Despite the narrow scoreline, the encounter reflected the intensity of a tight title race, with City dominating play but facing strong resistance from Burnley’s goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka.

The decisive moment came early, as Erling Haaland found the back of the net just five minutes into the match. A well-delivered pass from Jeremy Doku split Burnley’s defence, allowing Haaland to calmly slot the ball into the bottom corner and silence the home crowd.

City continued to press forward, having already threatened through Rayan Cherki, whose earlier effort struck the woodwork and tested Dubravka.

Under manager Pep Guardiola, City maintained control with over 60 percent possession, but Burnley, guided by Scott Parker, remained resilient.

Dubravka stood out with a series of crucial saves, denying Nico O’Reilly on multiple occasions and stopping another dangerous attempt from Cherki.

In the second half, City pushed for a second goal but struggled with finishing. Haaland came close to doubling his tally in the 55th minute, only to see his shot hit the post.

Substitutes Savinho and Nico also missed clear chances, with Savinho firing straight at the goalkeeper from close range.

Burnley created limited opportunities on the counter through Zian Flemming and Armando Broja, but City’s defence—anchored by Abdukodir Khusanov—remained solid, restricting the hosts to just one shot on target throughout the game.

The victory sees Manchester City move ahead of Arsenal as the title race heads into its decisive stages.
