The House of Representatives has summoned an emergency plenary session to deliberate on the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, 2025 (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2026.
According to a notice issued to lawmakers by the Acting Clerk of the House, Ibrahim Sidi, the special sitting is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 15, 2026.
The proposed legislation seeks to extend the implementation period of the capital component of the 2025 budget by an additional three months, shifting the deadline from June 30 to September 30, 2026.
The emergency session comes despite the House currently being on a short recess that began last Thursday and is expected to continue until early July.
In the notice, members were informed that the sitting would commence at 11:00 a.m. in line with Order Five, Rule 2(2) of the House Standing Orders. Lawmakers were also urged to give the session priority attendance due to the importance of the matter under consideration.
The development follows a similar move by the Senate, which last Thursday approved the bill extending the execution timeline for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from June 30, 2026, to September 30, 2026.
