INEC Opens Recruitment for Ad-hoc Staff Ahead of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the recruitment of ad-hoc personnel for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The commission announced via its official X platform that interested Nigerians can now apply online for various roles required for the exercise.

Available positions include Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Centre managers, and technical support staff (RATECHs).

According to INEC, the application window opened on April 25, 2026, and will close on May 18, 2026, with submissions to be made through its official recruitment portal.

The commission outlined eligibility criteria for each role. Applicants for Supervisory Presiding Officer positions must be public or civil servants on Grade Levels 10 to 14, or INEC staff within the same range not currently assigned to other duties.

For Registration Area Centre managers, candidates must be heads of schools or staff of institutions or public facilities designated as centres, with a minimum of Grade Level 07.

Those applying for Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officer roles must be serving corps members, penultimate-year students of tertiary institutions with basic computer skills, or government employees with at least an OND and within Grade Levels 07 to 10. INEC staff on Levels 07 and 08, as well as former corps members from 2023 to 2026, are also eligible.

Applicants for RATECH positions must possess ICT expertise and be INEC staff not engaged in other assignments.

INEC further stated that applicants must be politically neutral and reside in the state where they intend to serve, except for RATECH roles.

The recruitment forms part of preparations for the election, where incumbent governor Biodun Oyebanji is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
