IPOB Announces Indefinite Suspension of Nnamdi Kanu’s Leadership Office {SEE DETAILS}

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the indefinite suspension of the Office of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, along with the position of Director of Radio Biafra.

The decision was reportedly reached during a full meeting of the group’s Directorate and was disclosed in a statement issued by the Head of IPOB’s Directorate of State, Chikadibia Edoziem.

According to the statement, the Directorate of State will now oversee the affairs and administration of the organisation. IPOB maintained that the movement was founded collectively by Biafrans in the diaspora and not by any single individual, stressing that no person has the authority to dissolve its apex leadership structure.

The group said its decision followed a review of intelligence reports concerning communications allegedly linked to Kanu from detention in Sokoto. It argued that certain communications had contributed to arrests and deaths of some members in the South-East.

IPOB also claimed that Kanu’s activities and visitors were under surveillance by the Department of State Services (DSS).

IPOB Raises Alarm Over Potential Violence

The group expressed concerns over alleged plans by some individuals to establish a new militia, warning that such actions could fuel further violence in the region.

It said the suspension was intended to prevent reckless actions, unauthorized assumptions of authority, and statements that could endanger Biafran youths through arrests, torture, or loss of life.

IPOB further stated that any criminal activities carried out in the name of the suspended offices would no longer be attributed to the organisation.

Reports Of New Directorate Appointment

The development comes amid reports that Kanu had dissolved the third administration of the Directorate of State and constituted a fourth leadership team.

He was also said to have appointed U.S.-based Chris Nwaọgụ as the new Head of the Directorate of State, with responsibility for coordinating and managing the group’s affairs under his authority.

The Directorate of State, established in 2012 as IPOB’s administrative arm, has previously been led by Justin Akujieze, Uchenna Asiegbu, and Edoziem, who assumed the role in 2017 during Kanu’s earlier detention.
