The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to commence an indefinite nationwide strike from 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
The association said the action was triggered by the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the implementation of the revised Professional Allowance Table, a key agreement reached after its 2025 strike.
The resolution was reached during a virtual extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, raising concerns over potential disruptions to healthcare services in public hospitals across the country.
Speaking after the meeting, NARD President, Shuaibu Ibrahim, described the situation as regrettable and blamed the Federal Government for forcing doctors back into industrial action.
He stated that the NEC considered the government’s move to halt the allowance structure as unacceptable.
“After thorough deliberations, the NEC resolved to embark on a total and indefinite strike starting at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026,” he said.
