Senator Garba Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South Senatorial District, has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing alleged injustice and unresolved internal issues within the ruling party.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during plenary after a letter conveying his decision was read on the floor of the Senate by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
In the letter, Maidoki explained that his departure from the APC was driven by what he described as a prolonged internal crisis that had negatively affected his political ambitions and confidence in the party.
He further accused the APC of failing to uphold its core values of justice, peace, and unity, particularly during the recently concluded primary elections in Kebbi State.
According to the lawmaker, developments surrounding the primaries convinced him that the party no longer provided the platform needed to pursue his political aspirations.
Maidoki stated that he believes the African Democratic Congress offers a more suitable environment for achieving his political objectives.
However, Deputy Senate President Jibrin disagreed with the senator’s assertion that the APC was facing an internal crisis.
Responding to the letter, Jibrin maintained that the ruling party remained stable and free of any significant internal conflict. He also expressed willingness to mediate and reconcile Maidoki with the APC should the senator be open to such efforts.
Senator Maidoki currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance and also holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation.
His defection adds to the growing political realignments taking place ahead of future electoral contests across the country.
