The United States government has announced plans to deport 355 individuals from West African countries as part of an intensified immigration enforcement operation.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the affected individuals were identified under its West Africa Operations Watch (WOW) programme, with their names and photographs publicly released.
Nigeria tops the list of countries affected, with 110 Nigerians scheduled for deportation. Liberia follows with 94 individuals, while Ghana has 30 citizens on the list.
Other affected countries include Senegal (19), Cameroon (15), Ivory Coast (14), Gambia (14), Mauritania (12), Cape Verde (11), Burkina Faso (9), Niger (8), Togo (6), Guinea (6), Mali (5), and Benin and Guinea-Bissau with one person each.
DHS stated that the deportation exercise is part of ongoing efforts to enforce U.S. immigration laws, targeting individuals residing in the country without legal authorization. Many of those listed reportedly overstayed their visas or entered the country without proper documentation.
Among those named by U.S. authorities are Alexander Vorjolo and Steve Mulbah from Liberia; Gallimard Kamtchouang and Desmond Fodje Bobga from Cameroon; Franklin Donkoh and Adams Suleman from Ghana; Mariama Kanu and Hassan Jallo from Sierra Leone; Kodjo Kondon and Cesmel Meledje from Ivory Coast; and Sana Bayo and Kekuta Jatta from Gambia.
The list also includes Nigerians Oluwafemi Osinowo and Atiku Binuyo, along with many others expected to be repatriated to their respective countries.
