“Lagos Is Bigger Than You” – Rhodes-Vivour Slams Tinubu, APC

Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has criticised President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning against what he described as attempts to undermine the will of Lagos residents.

In a statement shared on Tuesday via his official 𝕏 account, Rhodes-Vivour described it as “insulting” to suggest that decisions about who governs Lagos—or when such leaders should be removed—depend on the preferences of a single individual or a select group.

He stressed that the authority to choose leaders rests solely with the people of Lagos.

“The APC, and particularly the President, are mistaken if they think Lagosians have lost their voice,” he said. “Reducing the choice of governor or the timing of removal to the whims or imaginations of one man and a group of kleptocrats is unacceptable and must be resisted.”

According to him, only Lagos residents have the constitutional right to determine their leaders and decide when they are no longer satisfied with them.

Rhodes-Vivour further argued that Lagos is “greater than the influence of any one individual,” urging a shift in the state’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Lagos is bigger than the control of any single person. By 2027, we must put an end to this ‘babasọpe’ style of politics and elect leaders who are truly accountable to the people,” he added.

He concluded by calling for a renewed focus on people-driven governance, saying it is time to reclaim Lagos in the interest of all its residents.
