Lagos to expand fire service network as safety projects grow

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to further strengthen its fire safety infrastructure, following the commissioning of a new fire station as part of broader projects aimed at boosting public safety and development.

In a statement, the government said the projects were unveiled during a two-day commissioning exercise held from April 8 to 9, 2026, under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. The event was conducted on behalf of Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Godswill Akpabio.

One of the major highlights is the Tolu School Complex in Olodi Apapa, Ajegunle, within Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area. The facility includes 36 schools, a modern fire station, and a stadium featuring 19 mini football pitches.

Authorities noted that integrating a fire station into the complex underscores efforts to safeguard lives and property while promoting community development.

Also commissioned was a multi-agency complex named after President Tinubu, designed to enhance coordination among emergency responders and public service agencies.

Speaking at the event, the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, praised the government’s continued investment in safety infrastructure. She said the new station would significantly improve emergency response, particularly in densely populated areas.

Adeseye revealed that with the addition of the Tolu Fire Station, the number of fire service locations in the state has risen to 25, marking the 11th station established under the current administration. She added that three more stations are currently under construction, with two already captured in this year’s budget.

The initiative reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing emergency services and creating a safer, more resilient environment for residents.
