Manchester United Set To Hand Michael Carrick Two-Year Contract

Manchester United are reportedly close to finalising a two-year agreement with Michael Carrick that would see him become the club’s permanent head coach.

Naija News understands that top officials at Old Trafford have identified the former midfielder as their preferred long-term option following his impressive stint as interim manager.

Speaking on Friday, Carrick hinted that a decision regarding his future would soon be confirmed. According to the BBC, he said: “The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon. We knew that.”

The club could make an official announcement before Sunday’s final home fixture of the season against Nottingham Forest. Reports indicate the proposed contract also includes the option of an additional year.

The negotiations reportedly come after recommendations from chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox to minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Carrick has overseen an impressive run since taking charge in January, winning 10 of his 15 league games and pushing United into the Champions League qualification spots. The Red Devils now require just one point from their final two matches to secure third place in the league standings.

Support for Carrick within the dressing room remains strong, while many fans believe the former England national football team international deserves the opportunity to lead the club permanently. He has also been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Season award.

Carrick also confirmed that Casemiro will be available for his farewell appearance at Old Trafford this weekend. The interim boss added that he intends to continue a tradition introduced by Sir Alex Ferguson by addressing supporters after the clash against Forest.

“The supporters are a massive part of this club,” Carrick said.

“We thank them for the season and for the support they’ve shown over the last four months.

“Considering everything we’ve been through and the connection the players have felt, it’s important for me to personally thank the fans.”
