Former Bayelsa State senator Ben Murray-Bruce has attributed the defection of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and five other governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 to what he described as poor decisions and misguided advice given to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Murray-Bruce, in a video circulating online, claimed that key PDP figures left the party because Jonathan’s advisers failed to properly address growing concerns and dissatisfaction among influential members of the party.
According to him, repeated warnings about the frustrations of some governors and party leaders were ignored, creating a situation that eventually led to the political fallout ahead of the 2015 general election.
The former lawmaker expressed disappointment over the actions of some presidential aides, saying they failed to recognise the seriousness of the issues affecting the party at the time.
Reflecting on the period, Murray-Bruce said he remained shocked that those close to the former President allegedly offered advice that contributed to the challenges faced by the administration.
He said the failure to respond effectively to internal party concerns played a major role in the decision of Amaechi and other PDP governors to leave the party.
Murray-Bruce Recalls Impact of 1983 Coup on His Business
Meanwhile, Murray-Bruce recently revealed that the 1983 military coup that removed President Shehu Shagari’s government had a major impact on his concert promotion business.
Speaking at the Infrastructure Dialogue 2026 in Abuja, he recalled how he built a successful entertainment promotion company between 1980 and 1983 after starting with a ₦20,000 loan from his siblings.
He explained that Nigeria’s entertainment industry was still developing at the time, with limited infrastructure, fewer media outlets and little institutional backing for businesses in the sector.
However, he said the military takeover in 1983 disrupted economic activities across the country and eventually brought his growing entertainment venture to a halt.
