A factional chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, Alexander Ombugu, has raised concerns over alleged threats to his life, urging security agencies to provide protection and investigate the matter.
Ombugu made the claim on Saturday while addressing journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
He suggested that the alleged threats may be linked to his stance following the party’s recently concluded primary elections in the state.
Although he did not name those he believed were responsible, he said the information would be handed over to security agencies to avoid compromising investigations.
He called on relevant authorities to urgently intervene, ensure his safety, and conduct a thorough probe into the situation.
According to him, his current challenges stem from his insistence on what he described as truth in the internal affairs of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State.
He alleged that certain individuals within and outside the party were displeased with his position on ongoing party disputes.
“I am standing by the truth, and some people within and outside the party are not happy about it,” he said.
He further explained that his family had been distressed by rumours of a planned attack against him, saying his wife was particularly affected after hearing the reports.
Ombugu maintained that he had done nothing wrong and had always conducted his political activities within the laws governing the Labour Party and the country.
He therefore appealed for increased security protection and a proper investigation into the matter.
Naija News reports that Ombugu had earlier called for reconciliation among party stakeholders in Nasarawa State, urging members to resolve internal disagreements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He reiterated his readiness to engage all factions in dialogue to restore unity within the party.
According to him, peace and cohesion are essential for the Labour Party to remain competitive in future elections.
