The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has postponed the orientation programme for prospective corps members posted to Niger State under the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream due to ongoing renovation work at the state’s orientation camp.
According to the scheme, the decision was necessitated by repairs being carried out at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Paiko, which sustained significant damage following a recent windstorm.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu.
She explained that the current condition of the camp makes it unsuitable for hosting the orientation exercise as originally scheduled.
Embu disclosed that the management of the scheme is already taking steps to secure a suitable alternative venue where the affected prospective corps members can undergo their orientation programme.
The NYSC assured prospective corps members that a new date for the commencement of the exercise, along with details of the alternative location, would be communicated through its official channels once arrangements are finalized.
The scheme urged all affected corps members to remain patient and await further updates.
It also emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure the orientation course takes place in a safe and conducive environment.
Expressing regret over the disruption, the NYSC apologised for any inconvenience the postponement may have caused prospective corps members and their families.
The statement noted that the renovation project was initiated by the Niger State Government following extensive structural damage caused by a recent windstorm at the Paiko orientation camp.
The scheme reiterated its commitment to keeping affected participants informed as soon as decisions on a new venue and commencement date are concluded.
