Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their preferred candidate for the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Monday during a large gathering at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, which brought together party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and key stakeholders from across the district.
The meeting was attended by members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, current and former local government chairmen, lawmakers at both state and national levels, councillors from all wards, as well as youth and women leaders.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, former Ogun East senator, Lekan Mustapha, said the decision was based on a shared belief in Abiodun’s ability to effectively represent the district at the Senate. He added that the party would formally inform the governor of the endorsement and also commit to securing his nomination forms.
Mustapha described the governor as a leader with strong character and sound judgment, expressing confidence in his capacity to deliver.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, said Abiodun’s performance in governance and his role in strengthening party unity make him a worthy choice for the position.
Also speaking, House of Representatives member, Femi Ogunbanwo, praised the governor’s achievements in promoting peace and development across Ogun State, adding that he is well-positioned to attract more benefits to Ogun East at the national level.
Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Afolabi Odulate, also commended the governor’s leadership and urged him to accept the call to contest for the Senate.
The event recorded full participation from councillors across the nine local governments in Ogun East, alongside youth leaders and other grassroots stakeholders. Several prominent figures, including former senators and party elders, were also present, highlighting the widespread support for Abiodun’s anticipated senatorial bid.
