Poland Hold Super Eagles To Dramatic 2-2 Draw In International Friendly

Poland scored deep into stoppage time to deny Nigeria a hard-fought victory as both sides settled for a thrilling 2-2 draw in an international friendly played on Wednesday, June 3.

The Super Eagles started brightly and broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Moses Simon, who finished off a well-worked move set up by Terem Moffi. Poland responded just before halftime when Kacper Potulski headed home from a Nicola Zalewski delivery in added time to level the score at 1-1.

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle made sweeping changes after the interval, introducing seven substitutes in a bid to inject fresh energy into the team. The changes paid off as the visitors regained momentum and were awarded a penalty in the 77th minute following a VAR review.

Paul Onuachu calmly converted from the spot to restore Nigeria’s lead and put the Super Eagles on course for what looked like a deserved victory.

However, Poland refused to give up and struck in the dying moments of the game. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Pawel Wiśniewski tapped home from close range after being set up by Nikodem Wojtuszek, ensuring the hosts snatched a dramatic late equaliser.

The contest also saw tempers flare late on, with Raphael Onyedika and Robert Lewandowski both receiving yellow cards in the 80th minute.

Despite dominating large spells of the encounter and producing an impressive attacking performance, Nigeria were forced to settle for a draw after Poland’s late comeback.

The result means the Super Eagles remain unbeaten under Eric Chelle, extending their impressive run to six matches.
