The Presidency has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to eradicate terrorism and other forms of violent crime across the country, insisting that terrorists have only two options: surrender or face decisive action from security forces.
Speaking on the administration’s security efforts, Presidential Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, praised the military and other security agencies for their continued operations against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and criminal networks.
According to Dare, recent successes recorded by security personnel, including arrests and offensives against criminal groups, demonstrate the progress being made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He stressed that President Tinubu remains unwavering in his commitment to defeating terrorism and will not yield to pressure or demands from criminal elements.
“President Tinubu has made it clear that the government will not surrender. The terrorists must either lay down their arms or be completely defeated,” Dare stated while reacting to reports of a major breakthrough by the Nigerian Army involving the arrest of a suspected high-profile arms trafficker linked to an interstate illegal weapons network.
The statement comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity following the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while being held by terrorists in Katsina State.
Reacting to the incident, President Tinubu expressed shock and sadness over the retired military officer’s death. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President noted that General Abubakar was travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by the attackers.
The Presidency reiterated that the government would not negotiate the release of detained terrorist suspects in exchange for hostages, maintaining that criminal groups would not be allowed to dictate terms to the Nigerian state.
Officials insist that security operations will continue until those responsible for acts of terror are brought to justice and peace is restored to affected communities.
