Real Madrid have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella in a transfer worth €60 million (£51.7 million), ending the Spanish defender’s four-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
The agreement is said to include an initial fee of €55 million, with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses. Although the final documents are yet to be signed, the transfer is expected to be completed early next week.
Cucurella, 27, is currently with the Spanish national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, but reports indicate that all parties have already reached a verbal agreement.
The defender joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 for £63 million and made 150 appearances for the London club. During his time with the Blues, he helped the team win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.
The Spain international attracted interest from several clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, but Real Madrid ultimately emerged as the preferred destination.
Sources suggest Cucurella’s desire to return to Spain played a major role in his decision to leave Chelsea.
His departure follows a difficult period for the Premier League side, which finished 10th in the league and failed to secure European qualification. The club also experienced managerial instability throughout the campaign.
Despite reportedly being part of the plans of new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, Cucurella opted to pursue a move back to his homeland.
The defender remains focused on Spain’s World Cup campaign and is expected to complete the transfer after fulfilling his international duties.
Real Madrid view Cucurella as a key addition to strengthen their defensive options as they prepare for the 2026/27 season.
