Super Eagles, Super Falcons Camps Expand Ahead of June International Friendlies

Preparations for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies intensified on June 2 as more players joined the Super Eagles camp in Warsaw ahead of their clash with Poland.

Midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was the latest arrival, increasing the squad size in camp to 19 players. The Lazio midfielder’s arrival was confirmed by team media officer Promise Efoghe as head coach Eric Chelle continues assembling his team for Wednesday’s fixture.

The match will be only the second meeting between Nigeria and Poland, with the Super Eagles winning their first encounter 1-0 in 2018 through a Victor Moses penalty under former coach Gernot Rohr.

Nigeria will be aiming to maintain momentum, while Poland seek recovery after a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine, which extended their winless run.

Following the Poland game, the Super Eagles will face Portugal in another friendly. The last meeting between both sides ended in a 4-0 defeat for Nigeria in 2022.

Several players are already in camp, including Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho, Arthur Okonkwo, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Paul Onuachu, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Semi Ajayi, and Dele-Bashiru.

Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for the Super Falcons in Ikenne ahead of two friendlies against Senegal.

Veteran striker Asisat Oshoala is among the early arrivals, alongside Shukurat Oladipo and Kafayat Shittu. Head coach Justine Madugu expects a full 23-player squad before Tuesday evening’s first training session.

The Falcons will host Senegal at the Remo Stars Stadium on Friday and again on Monday in return fixtures.

These friendlies are part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria are drawn in Group C with Egypt, Zambia, and debutants Malawi. Senegal, meanwhile, are in Group A alongside Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.

The tournament will also serve as African qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the top four teams earning automatic qualification and the fifth-placed team heading to an intercontinental playoff.
