The planned training tour of the Nigeria women’s national football team to the United Kingdom later this month has been called off after Jamaica women’s national football team pulled out of a scheduled international friendly.
The trip, which was scheduled to take place from May 23 to 28, was intended to form an important part of the Super Falcons’ preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The proposed clash against Jamaica was expected to help the African champions improve match sharpness and test tactical strategies ahead of the tournament.
According to reports from Savid News cited by Daily Post, the fixture was cancelled due to administrative challenges affecting the Jamaican team, leading organisers to cancel the entire tour.
The latest development adds to a series of disrupted fixtures for the Super Falcons. Earlier in April, Cape Verde women’s national football team withdrew from a planned double-header friendly, leaving Nigeria without competitive games during the last international break.
With the UK tour now scrapped, Nigeria will have to wait until the next FIFA-sanctioned women’s international window in June to arrange new friendly matches.
Coach Justine Madugu and his team last featured in March, when they secured an impressive 3-1 away victory over the Cameroon women’s national football team in Yaounde.
The Super Falcons are currently preparing to defend their title at the 2026 WAFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco in July. The competition will also serve as part of the qualification process for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
