‘Tinubu Lacks Understanding Of Economics’ – Adebayo Criticises Fuel Subsidy Removal

Former presidential candidate of the Social Demo

cratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as one of the administration’s earliest mistakes.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy during his inauguration at Eagle Square in Abuja in 2023.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, Adebayo argued that the president’s decision reflected a poor understanding of economic management.

According to him, there was no actual subsidy to remove, insisting that the policy merely resulted in an increase in fuel prices because the government allegedly did not have the product available in the first place.

Adebayo also claimed that the current administration has struggled with budget implementation despite spending over ₦100 trillion since assuming office. He added that even some government ministers have reportedly questioned how the funds were utilised.

The SDP chieftain further stated that Tinubu, despite being an experienced and successful politician, is surrounded by individuals who fail to provide meaningful guidance.

He warned that removing Tinubu alone would not solve Nigeria’s political problems unless competent leaders capable of forming an effective government emerge to replace the current political class.
