A fatal lone-vehicle accident has claimed the life of a driver along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Charity Bus Stop, inward Iyana Isolo. Reports indicate that the driver lost control of a Honda Pilot SUV, which somersaulted multiple times before coming to a halt.
The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the driver’s death at the scene. His body was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle until officials arrived.
LASTMA personnel, who were on traffic management duty in the area, swiftly responded alongside officers from the Mosafejo Police Division. The team recovered the victim’s body, managed traffic flow, and secured the accident scene to prevent further incidents.
Following the operation, officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the deceased to a public mortuary, while the damaged vehicle was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Reacting to the tragedy, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads.
He advised drivers to avoid excessive speeding, reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, and other traffic violations, stressing that road safety should remain a top priority at all times.
Bakare-Oki emphasized that no journey is worth risking human life and called on all road users to remain vigilant, obey traffic regulations, and prioritize safety, particularly during late-night and early-morning travel.
