Uber has rolled out a new feature that allows users to book hotel rooms directly within its app, marking a significant step in its ambition to transform into an all-in-one digital platform.
The company said the service is launching in partnership with Expedia, giving users access to over 700,000 properties worldwide. Plans are also in place to extend the offering to include short-term rentals from Vrbo.
The new booking feature functions similarly to traditional travel websites, with options to search, view maps, and filter results by price, amenities, and guest ratings. Users can also complete reservations using their existing payment details stored on the app.
Speaking on the development, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company is evolving beyond transportation and food delivery into a broader service platform. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin added that the partnership aims to simplify the booking process and save users time and money.
The move builds on Uber’s expansion strategy, which began with the launch of Uber Eats in 2014 and has since grown to include retail deliveries such as groceries, cosmetics, and electronics.
Uber’s latest push aligns with the global rise of “super apps”—platforms that combine multiple services into a single ecosystem—similar to WeChat and Alipay.
Rival platforms like Airbnb are also expanding their offerings, adding experiences and on-demand services alongside lodging and transport options.
Looking ahead, Uber revealed plans to integrate artificial intelligence features that will enable users to plan meals, create shopping lists, and manage deliveries seamlessly. A voice assistant is also in development to allow users to navigate the app through conversational commands.
