UPDATE : Wife of Late Retired General Regains Freedom After Kidnap Ordeal

The wife of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, who was abducted alongside her husband in Katsina State, has reportedly regained her freedom following the tragic death of the former military officer in captivity.

According to sources, Hajiya Amina Abubakar was released alive and handed over to the Katsina State Government, while the remains of her late husband were also recovered and transported to Kaduna for burial.

A source familiar with the development disclosed that the retired general’s body and his wife were released together, bringing an end to the ordeal that began with their abduction in late May.

The Katsina State Government subsequently confirmed the death of the former Army spokesperson through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu.

According to the state government, Maj. Gen. Rabe died while in captivity due to complications arising from underlying health conditions, including diabetes and hypertension.

The government expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a significant loss not only to the family of the deceased but also to Katsina State and the nation as a whole.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended condolences to the bereaved family and lamented the circumstances surrounding the retired officer’s death, describing it as a painful reminder of the persistent security challenges facing the country.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with federal authorities and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the abduction are apprehended and brought to justice.

Maj. Gen. Rabe and his wife were kidnapped on May 30, 2026, while travelling along the Marabar Musawa-Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. Their vehicle was reportedly attacked by armed bandits near Zakin Baure village, during which their driver sustained gunshot injuries.

Authorities have pledged to intensify efforts against banditry and other forms of criminality threatening the safety of residents across the state.
