Veteran Actor Kola Oyewo Opens Up on Health Struggles

Veteran Nollywood actor Kola Oyewo has shared details of his battle with prostate enlargement, revealing how the condition has affected his career and daily life.

The 80-year-old made this known during a visit by fellow actor Kunle Afod to his home, where he spoke about his prolonged absence from the screen. According to Oyewo, the illness has limited the types of roles he can now perform, restricting him mostly to less demanding appearances.

He explained that the condition was discovered after he began experiencing symptoms such as frequent urination and sleepless nights. These challenges eventually led him to seek medical attention, where he was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate.

Reflecting on his situation, Oyewo noted that while he is gradually improving, the illness has changed his physical capacity. He expressed gratitude for his recovery process, acknowledging that he may not return to his previous level of strength but remains thankful for life.

The actor also pointed out that some of his peers are still physically stronger, but he considers himself fortunate to have survived the experience.

Oyewo, who began his acting career in 1964, rose to prominence through stage and screen productions such as The Gods Are Not to Blame and Sango. Beyond acting, he also had a distinguished academic career, serving as a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife from 1996 until his retirement in 2011.
