The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
The examination body announced the development on Wednesday through its official X account, urging candidates to generate their result-checking PIN and access their results online.
According to WAEC, candidates should visit waec.org to generate their Serial Number and PIN before proceeding to waecdirect.org to check their examination results.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, the Head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that the council withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 percent of those who sat for the 2026 computer-based WASSCE, over allegations of examination malpractice.
Dr. Dangut revealed that 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea registered for the examination, while 1,950,726 candidates eventually wrote the exams.
He added that 1,200,514 candidates (61.54 percent) obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, while 1,687,378 candidates (86.50 percent) earned five credits or more regardless of whether English and Mathematics were included.
WAEC noted that the pass rate for candidates who obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics, dropped by 1.42 percentage points compared to the 2025 examination.
A breakdown of the successful candidates shows that 558,883 males (28.65 percent) and 641,631 females (32.89 percent) achieved the benchmark of five credits, including English and Mathematics.
The examination body also stated that 997,267 females (51.12 percent) and 953,459 males (48.88 percent) participated in the examination.
According to WAEC, the results of 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 percent, have been fully processed and released, while the results of 116,031 candidates (5.95 percent) are still undergoing processing.
How to Check Your 2026 WAEC Result
Candidates who wish to access their results should first recover or generate their Serial Number and PIN by following these steps:
- Visit the WAEC portal and select the “Serial Number and PIN” option.
- Choose the appropriate examination year and examination diet.
- Enter your examination number and the same National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration.
- Provide your email address and phone number to receive a One-Time Password (OTP).
- Enter the OTP to generate your Serial Number and PIN.
- Use the generated details to log in to the WAEC result-checking portal and view your result.
WAEC also advised candidates that they can download their official WAEC ID card to their mobile devices through the designated portal.
