Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of neglecting governance in favour of pursuing his 2027 re-election ambition.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike expressed concern over what he described as misplaced priorities by the governor. He alleged that Fubara has yet to present a budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly, while focusing on securing a second term in office.
Wike warned that the delay in submitting the budget could disrupt government operations and hinder the delivery of essential services to residents of the state.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has accused Wike of exerting influence over the emergence of governorship candidates in both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP in Rivers State.
George described the situation as worrisome, warning that it could further destabilise the PDP and affect the broader political landscape if not properly addressed.
He made the remarks during an appearance on Morning Show on Arise Television, where he also voiced concern over the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, calling it unprecedented. He criticised members of Wike’s camp for allegedly disregarding party rules and procedures.
