Woman Allegedly Threw 5-Year-Old Child Into River Following Advice From Self-Styled Seer In Edo State {VIDEO}

A woman accused of throwing her five-year-old child into a river in Edo State has reportedly claimed that she acted on the advice of a self-proclaimed seer who convinced her that the child was responsible for her inability to conceive again.

According to accounts circulating in the community, the woman told residents that she had not been able to have another child since giving birth to the youngster five years ago. She also alleged that the child had been unable to walk since birth, a condition that caused her concern and prompted her to seek spiritual intervention.

The woman reportedly said she later visited a self-styled seer in Benin City, who allegedly informed her that the child was not an ordinary human being but a python in human form.

According to her account, the seer warned that if the child remained alive, she would either continue giving birth to children with similar conditions or be unable to conceive again.

Believing the warning, the woman allegedly took the child to a river and threw the youngster into the water.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and child rights advocates, many of whom have condemned the alleged act and called for a thorough investigation.

Authorities are expected to investigate both the circumstances surrounding the incident and the alleged role played by the self-acclaimed seer. As of the time of this report, officials had yet to release a formal statement on the case or confirm the status of the child.

The development has also reignited concerns over the influence of harmful superstitious beliefs and the dangers they pose to vulnerable children and families.
