A tragic incident occurred in Ilara-Mokin, located in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a woman identified as Oluwasola Adebayo reportedly collapsed and died while accompanying her daughter to a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination centre.
The unfortunate event happened on Monday during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), leaving residents of the community in shock and grief.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman began to feel weak shortly after arriving at the exam venue before suddenly collapsing. Efforts by people at the scene to revive her were unsuccessful, and she was confirmed dead on the spot.
Sources revealed that she had earlier told acquaintances about her plan to escort her daughter to the centre. At the time of the incident, however, the daughter—whose identity was not disclosed—was inside the examination hall writing her UTME, unaware of what had happened outside.
The incident attracted a crowd of sympathisers and passersby, many expressing sadness over the sudden loss.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, said the matter had been reported and handled appropriately. He stated that the police were deeply saddened by the occurrence and had contacted the deceased’s family.
He added that the remains were released to a man identified as Apapa Olamilekan, said to be the deceased’s son and a member of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.
The police extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to remain calm, as the Ilara-Mokin community continues to mourn the sudden loss.
