Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo and his partner, Noa van der Bij, are grieving the heartbreaking loss of their unborn son, whom they had named Elijah Raphael Gakpo.
The couple shared the tragic news in an emotional Instagram Story, accompanied by a touching black-and-white photograph showing their hands gently resting on their baby, who was wrapped in a blanket and dressed in a knitted cap.
In their heartfelt message, they wrote:
“With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy.
“Thank you for your love and support.”
They also paid tribute to their son by writing:
“Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Forever loved. Forever our son.”
Following the announcement, an outpouring of condolences came from fans, teammates, and members of the football community, who expressed their support for the grieving family.
The Netherlands national team, alongside Liverpool FC, shared a joint message on Instagram, stating:
“Our thoughts are with you, Cody and family.”
Gakpo, a key player for both Liverpool and the Netherlands, has not disclosed any additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the loss.
