Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of new principal officers for The Polytechnic, Ibadan, naming Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the institution’s substantive Rector.

The governor also appointed Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian.

The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, following the governor’s approval.

According to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, the selection process complied fully with the established procedures governing the appointment of principal officers in state-owned tertiary institutions.

He explained that the recruitment exercise began with the advertisement of the vacant positions in national newspapers, after which qualified applicants were screened and interviewed by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Professor Lanre Nassar.

Prof. Adelabu said the appointments took effect from July 31, 2026, with each of the newly appointed officials expected to serve a single five-year tenure.

He congratulated the appointees and urged them to provide visionary leadership that would strengthen academic excellence, foster institutional stability, and drive the continued development of the Polytechnic.

The appointments also bring to an end the prolonged period during which the institution’s key leadership positions were occupied by acting officials.
