The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The monarch announced the donation on Tuesday when Igboho and members of the security outfit paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
In a statement issued by the Ooni’s media office, the revered traditional ruler described the initiative as a timely intervention aimed at complementing existing security efforts and improving the protection of lives and property across Yorubaland.
Oba Ogunwusi praised Igboho for his courage, resilience and dedication to the safety and welfare of the Yoruba people, stressing that true leadership is measured by selfless service and meaningful contributions to society.
He noted that ensuring the security of communities is a shared responsibility that goes beyond political, religious or ideological differences, adding that every genuine effort to preserve peace deserves support.
The monarch also urged traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, community stakeholders and other prominent Yoruba sons and daughters to rally behind the Iru Ekun Security Network.
According to him, unity remains essential to safeguarding the interests of Yorubaland and tackling the region’s security challenges.
“Our strength lies in unity. When we work together with one purpose, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland,” the Ooni said, while describing Igboho as a courageous patriot whose efforts would be remembered by history.
Responding, Sunday Igboho expressed gratitude to the monarch for the financial support, vehicle and royal endorsement.
He described the Ooni as a symbol of Yoruba unity whose humility, wisdom and leadership continue to inspire people across the world.
Igboho disclosed that he intends to convene a summit of traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to the region’s security concerns.
He said the proposed meeting, subject to the Ooni’s approval, would be hosted at the palace in Ile-Ife.
The Yoruba Nation advocate also assured that the Iru Ekun Security Network would operate within the confines of the law, collaborate with relevant security agencies and local communities, and focus on intelligence gathering, community policing and the promotion of peace throughout Yorubaland.
