
A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School has died in an incident being investigated as a suspected suicide at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The deceased, identified as Alayande Faith Ajoke, was reportedly found unresponsive within the hostel premises in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident was reported to the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30 a.m. by the Chief Matron of the Nigerian Law School, Mrs Igbokwe Juliana.
Reports indicate that a student, identified as Ojo Abisoye Tinuola, alerted the matron to the incident after discovering that something was wrong with her roommate.
The matron reportedly went to the location and found the student unresponsive. The circumstances surrounding the death have since been referred to the police for investigation.
Following the report, detectives from the Victoria Island Police Division visited the scene as part of their preliminary investigation and documented relevant evidence.
The deceased’s remains were later taken to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba, where they are being preserved pending further procedures, including an autopsy.
Police authorities have commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The Nigerian Law School has not, at the time of this report, issued a detailed public statement on the incident.
