Kylian Mbappé scored twice, including a dramatic 87th-minute winner, as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona in a thrilling El Clásico encounter.
Mbappé opened the scoring shortly before half-time when Gerard Martín’s attempted clearance deflected off the French forward and beat goalkeeper Joan García.
Barcelona responded in the second half through captain Raphinha, who converted Pedri’s pass to level the contest. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin then produced a crucial save to deny Martín and keep Real Madrid in the game.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Jude Bellingham initiated a brilliant attacking move before substitute Eduardo Camavinga supplied Mbappé, who finished into an empty net to secure victory for the visitors.
The result ended Barcelona’s hopes of setting an outright record for consecutive victories at the start of a Spanish top-flight season, leaving them short of Real Madrid’s historic mark of nine successive wins from 1968–69.
Mbappé has now scored 11 La Liga goals this season and eight times in seven El Clásico appearances since joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona remain top of the table after 10 matches, two points ahead of Atlético Madrid, with Real Madrid a further point behind in third place.
SNOW TV EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
Real Madrid’s victory underlines the importance of clinical finishing and composure in football’s biggest matches. Mbappé’s decisive contribution and Lunin’s crucial saves proved instrumental, while Bellingham and Camavinga played key roles in the late winner.
For Barcelona, Raphinha’s equalizer demonstrated their attacking threat, but defensive lapses ultimately proved costly.
With the La Liga title race still finely balanced, this result could become an important moment in the season. Both teams will need greater consistency as the campaign progresses.
