Oyo Budget Commissioner Resigns from Makinde’s Cabinet

SNOW TV NEWS DESK
Oyo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ayobami Ojo, has resigned from Governor Seyi Makinde’s cabinet with immediate effect.

Ojo announced his resignation in a letter dated November 2, 2026, addressed to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government.

In the letter, the commissioner formally notified Makinde of his decision to step down from his appointment, which was confirmed on June 22, 2026.

“With reference to your letter dated 22nd June, 2026 (SP.S.662/2/VOL.IV/192), I respectfully write to formally resign my appointment as Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, with effect from today, 2nd November, 2026,” he stated.

Ojo expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing his appointment as a privilege and his service to the state as a great honor.

He, however, did not disclose the reasons behind his decision to leave the administration.

His resignation marks another departure from Makinde’s cabinet, following the earlier exits of the governor’s Executive Assistant on Security Coordination, Kabiru Salami; former Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; and Director-General of the Oyo State Due Process Office, Tara Adefope.

The latest development has drawn attention to the growing number of officials leaving the state government, although no official explanation has been provided linking the departures.

SNOW TV EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
The resignation of Oyo State’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning raises questions about continuity and stability within Governor Makinde’s administration, particularly as the state manages critical fiscal and development responsibilities.

The departure of another senior official, following several earlier resignations, makes it important for the government to address concerns about institutional stability and ensure that governance is not disrupted. While public officeholders have the right to resign, frequent changes in key positions can affect policy implementation, administrative efficiency, and public confidence.

The Makinde administration should prioritize a smooth transition, provide clarity where appropriate, and ensure that the state’s budgetary and economic planning activities continue without interruption. Ultimately, effective governance must remain bigger than individual officeholders.
